Brown Algae in Saltwater Aquarium

So I recently started a saltwater aquarium and everything was going great until brown hair algae took over.

This blog post is basically about my experience. My 60 gallon saltwater aquarium was running for about a month. It currently has 2 clownfish, 1 talbot damselfish and 1 emerald crab. I started to notice brown algae form on my sand and then 2 days later it was all over my live rock, power-heads and heater. I went to my local fish store to ask them if this was normal and what I should do.

They told me to do nothing. That this was part of the cycling process. I was under the impression that my tank was already done cycling. But, they said it will clear up on it’s own in a couple of weeks. They did tell me to buy Purple Up because this chemical promotes coralline algae which eats brown algae.

Currently, the brown algae is still in my tank and I have added Purple Up but haven’t seen any results yet. It has only been about 5 days though so I will continue to monitor.

If anyone has any experience with brown algae please leave a comment below!

Creative ideas for aquariums

Designers have taken over the world and they now present us with creative ideas for our everyday items. Such is the case of aquariums and how they can be used, for example, to use space wisely, yet in an eccentric way.

This is a design by Sheng-Zhe Feng and Ling-Yuan Chou, it combines a planter and an aquarium. It’s a way to kill two birds with one stone, only in this case, is about to keeping two beings alive!

We love Mason Jars, I know I do, and I use them for multiple purposes, including decoration. This design by Christy shows us a way of using the jars as three things at once: a planter, a support for a shelf and as a mini aquarium.

If you want to go green and recycle an old -furniture- and still keep it as decoration, use an old wooden TV as an aquarium!

And, if you really want to go crazy and you are not really interested in using space functionally and have plenty of fish, you can use a phone booth as an aquarium!

We Fell Into Fall

Whoa, hey there.

I know it’s been since we’ve posted in the blog, but this time of year gets pretty nutty. Look, we already fell into fall 2012 and it’s almost winter time. I’ve still been updating WereAllWet.com on the backend and thinking of new ideas, like The Lagoon.

The Lagoon by We’re All Wet is a page dedicated to idea’s, dreams, and fantasies. It is simply a place to create your dream or see what other’s are dreaming up. Everyone has a story, what’s yours?

The cool thing about The Lagoon, is it is the first thing on WereAllWet.com that is not specifically targeted towards fish keeping. I like the idea behind it and hopefully it helps people have a positive outlook on life.

Happy Thanksgiving and Keep Swimming!

Finding Nemo 3D

You probably guessed that I am super excited Finding Nemo is finally coming in 3D and to the theater!! Wahoo!

Will you be seeing Finding Nemo in 3D? See the poll in the sidebar and vote. :)

Finding Nemo 3D will be released in theaters on September 14th, 2012. This is probably my favorite Disney/Pixar movie. Given We’re All Wets’ viewers I’m sure you feel the same way! The short at the beginning of Finding Nemo will be Rex’s party. I’m pretty excited for that as well since I am a Toy Story fan.

Jump in September 14th and remember, just keep swimming.

FLUVAL Spec and other updates

Hey Everyone!

I know it’s been awhile since I’ve last updated We’re All Wet. This Summer has been really busy with a new job, I took a web design class, and was just enjoying the warm weather.

On to the fish-
Some of you may know that I recently took down my 30 gallon tall aquarium to save some time on maintenance. I still have the 60 gallon cichlid tank, though. I also just bought a small desktop aquarium called the FLUVAL Spec.

Here is a picture:

This aquarium is 2 gallons and houses my betta fish and 3 Harlequin Rasboras.

Hope everyone is enjoying their Summer! Keep Swimming.

Finally, a public aquarium for everyone.

We’re All Wet has a new section! After about a month of building, we can now officially announce the Public Aquariums page under the Get Wet section. You can now search by state to see every public aquarium the United States has to offer! We may have missed some so if you know of one we don’t have, please let us know.

The Get Wet section of WereAllWet.com is meant to give our visitors more opportunities to learn about aquatics outside of the Internet. We hope it gets users out and about in the aquarium industry and more involved in aquariums clubs, public aquariums and events.
