Pogostemon helferi is a relitively new plant in the planted aquarium hobby and has grown in popularity over the past few months. Pogostemon helferi is so new that there are little to no common names for them so people usually just call it pogo or pogostemon. One of the reasons this tropical plant has grown in popularity is because of it’s unusual crinkled and bright green leaves which are arranged in a star shape.
Pogo multiplies by means of runners which are sent off in every direction once the plant is established in the aquarium, it is a beginner plant providing that at least T8 lighting is provided and that it has good fertilisation in the form of root tablets, liquid fertilisation or a nutrient rich substrate such as aquasoil or organic compost. If these basic requirements are met then pogostemon will grow well and slowly spread across the substrate giving the effect of a bright green carpet!
